Nutcracker Ballet

The James Family Prescott YMCA is putting on its Annual Nutcracker Ballet including a variety of scene renditions. This year we will have a few scenes from The Nutcracker Ballet performed at the Prescott Public Library, 215 E Goodwin St, at 10:30am, Saturday, December 14. The main performance will be held at Prescott High School’s Ruth Street Theater, 1050 Ruth St at 7:00pm, Friday, December 20th and 4:00pm on Saturday, December 21st. There is no cost for the library performance and tickets go on sale November 15th for the Ruth Street performance. Advance tickets are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth 3-9 and free for children 2 and under. Tickets at the door are $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for youth 3-9 and free for children 2 and under. The YMCA is the only organization in Prescott to put on “The Nutcracker” in any form and this year we will have more pieces in the show that weren’t included last year. Our talented dance department has been putting on The Nutcracker Ballet since 2011. “Dance is about connection and ballet is one of the more formal, beautiful forms of dance that communicate that connection,” said Kim Beaird, YMCA Dance Coordinator. “Our dancers work hard on their technique, form, and grace and we invite the community to enjoy the sheer artistry of our students that have worked hard since August auditions to put together this production.” The Ballet Artistic Director for The Nutcracker is Myrta George aka Mrs. G. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, ballet teacher Myrta George started her dance training at age 5. After graduating from high school, she auditioned and was accepted at the prestigious School of American Ballet, the school for the New York City Ballet. Myrta’s first professional appearance, while still a student at the School of American Ballet, was with the Corps de Ballet at Radio City Music Hall. During her professional career, she danced with ballet companies in Puerto Rico, New York and London. Mrs. G is currently teaching the Intermediate and Advanced Ballet classes as well as the Pointe and Pas de Deux (Partnering).
