Prescott Valley Public Library: Jump Start Your Writing Practice, June 12th, 2024 (In Person program)- Pre-registration required.
Prescott Valley Public Library will be hosting writer in residence, Laraine Herring. Join us for special Writer in Residence writing workshops from June through July. Kick off the summer with some tips and tools to help you start a writing practice or recommit to one that you’ve let slide. We’ll talk about a variety of ways to think about a writing practice and how it can benefit you—whether you want to publish or not- and we’ll spend time together on generative exercises to help get the words flowing. Bring something to write with and on! Jump Start Your Writing Practice is the first in a series of Writer in Residence Workshops. This class is open to teens/adults. Summer 2024 Writer in Residence – Laraine Herring Laraine Herring, Prescott Valley’s Writer-in-Residence, has an MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in Counseling Psychology. She is a tenured professor of psychology and creative writing at Yavapai College and has been teaching since 1993. She has conducted webinars for Corporeal Writing, Creative Nonfiction Magazine, Phoenix Author’s Group and more, and has earned grants through the Arizona Artists Roster. Her work has won the Barbara Deming Award for Women in Fiction and her memoir, A Constellation of Ghosts made a number of top ten lists in 2021. Recent publications include: On Being Stuck: Tapping in to the Creative Power of Writer’s Block (2016) The Grief Forest: A Book About What We Don’t Talk About (2020) A Constellation of Ghosts: A Speculative Memoir with Ravens (2021) Pre-registration is required for these workshops.
