What to bring?
 
You can bring two medium-sized boxes full
of documents to be shredded or two medium-sized trash cans.
 
Tips for Shredding
 

• Credit Card Offers & Junk Mail: Shred immediately. 
• Tax Returns: Keep for seven years.
• Old Credit Cards: Shred expired or canceled cards. 
• Pay Stubs: Keep until you receive your annual W-2 form.
• Expired IDs and Passports: Shred to prevent misuse.
• Old Bank Statements: Shred statements older than one year.
• Medical Records & Statements: Shred once you no longer need them, typically after seven years.
• Medical Bills: Keep for one year unless they are used for insurance claims or tax purposes.
• Bank Statements: Keep for one year unless needed for tax purposes.
• Utility Bills: Keep for one year unless used for tax purposes.
• Receipts for Major Purchases: Keep for the life of the item for warranty purposes.
• Investment Records: Keep until you sell the investment, plus seven years for tax purposes.
• Home Purchase, Sale, or Improvement Documents: Keep indefinitely or until you sell the home plus seven years.
